Zume

Zume (Gk.) ferment (as if boiling up)–leaven.

He spoke another parable to them, “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three pecks of meal, until it was all leavened.”

~Matthew 13:33

If you’ve ever made traditional bread, you know what this is talking about: A bowl of warm water with yeast scattered over the surface, set aside in a quiet place until silently, the whole water is covered with the bubbling activity of an invisible organism.

If you’ve never made traditional bread, I have a recipe posted here.  :~)

We have friends, relatives and contacts around the world, engaged in Christian work; or simply in being God’s, where they are. When darkness comes, life bubbles up around us, carrying us onward to completion.

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance, and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

~Hebrews 12:1-2

Canada

We’ve twice had the privilege of helping local churches to bring CMI speakers to our rural area. Great info, great guys, lotsa fun.

Croatia

We met them long, long ago, just before they left for Croatia. We’ve corresponded, prayed and even had them stay with us once when they were back this way.

East Asia

In the darkness as our time was winding down at our home church, we spent a morning stuffing newsletter envelopes and sharing stories of God’s invisible-but-obvious power around a table in downtown Winnipeg.

England

They were going to come live here in Canada, but it didn’t work out. What did was the homeschooling, homesteading friendship that developed via ye olde interwebbe.

Mozambique

A friend spent two weeks serving at Amor Mocambique; then I found the blog by accident. My heart has remained with the country ever since.

New Zealand

We’ve corresponded over sci-fi, the writer’s life and Christianity for some time. We finally met irl as Grace made her way from Ireland to New Zealand via a cross-country USA trip.

United States

  • Well, a lot of people, but I want to mention the Schooleys.

We ran across each other due to my review of Marc’s novel, and the connect amongst us has been instant. Odds are you’ll see Marc regularly in the comments section here at Scienda, and me over in his at The Areopagus.
